Benefits of Arts / Painting

Let the true colours show...

Art therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

The creative process involved in expressing one’s self artistically can help people to resolve issues as well as develop and manage their behaviors and feelings, reduce stress, and improve self-esteem and awareness.

Art therapy can achieve different things for different people. It can improve lives by helping people improve their mental, emotional, and even physical states. It can raise the quality of life for many people, and it’s worth considering if it can aid you in some way or another.

Experiences in art creation validate our connection to the whole of life, which increases belief in self, self-esteem, self-validation, and self-awareness. It facilitates discovery of one’s strengths and authenticity. Learning the skill of self-observation and self-control.

Benefits of Drama

Be what you want to be...

Drama encourages the use of imagination and theatrical metaphors to enable the exploration and understanding of difficult issues that are often difficult to deal with in reality. The ‘made up’ or ‘as if’ reality of the drama space is a safe zone where past and present personal difficulties, thoughts and emotions can be approached, understood and reconsidered. To a large extent this entire process and space helps one to ‘relook’ or ‘review’ the same situation under a different light as an observer and thus helps explore the infinite creative realm of possibilities. Issues of the real world can be effectively dealt with in the imaginary / made up world of drama without experiencing the pain of these situations and memories.

The various benefits of drama are:

  • Mobilizes inner imagination and taps one’s creative resources.

  • Helps rediscover oneself under a new creative and dynamic light.

  • Helps one empathize with oneself in a ‘near real’ situation and helps explore the realm of possibilities.

  • Broadens the range of experience and expression of feelings.

  • Reduces feelings of isolation and helps experience positive interactions and empathy for others.

  • Helps develop verbal and non-verbal communication skills as a natural outcome. These allow one to cooperate and collaborate with others with ease.

  • Aesthetic appreciation, social awareness and abstract perception gets sharper with regular practice.

Benefits of Play

Play brings out the child in you...

Play comes naturally to all of us. It is instinctive and fundamental to our existence. It is one of the best medium to connect with others and proves to be a source of energy and excitement.

When adults or the elderly play, they engage in exactly the same patterns of behavior that positively shape the brain in children. Play provides a safe and joyous context for the development of relationships. A sure (and fun) way to preserve happiness and health is to play - play with your friends, children, grandchildren, romantic partner, officemates, anyone and every one.

Benefits of Play

  • Play connects us to others.

  • Play is an excellent brain stimulator and also a source of relaxation.

  • Play fosters creativity, flexibility, and learning.

  • Play is an antidote to loneliness, isolation, anxiety, and depression.

  • Play teaches us perseverance and improves our social skills.

  • Play makes us happy.

  • Mutual play can heal emotional wounds.

Benefits of Drumming

Drumming is for all ages...

Drumming is an ancient approach that uses rhythm for self-expression and healing. Recent research indicates that drumming accelerates physical healing, stimulates release of happy hormones called ‘endorphins’, boosts the immune system, produces a feeling of well-being, releases emotional trauma and reintegrates oneself.

Drumming has demonstrated significant healing effects on individuals with Alzheimer's, Autism, Emotionally disturbed Teens, Recovering Addicts, Trauma Survivors, etc.

Drumming teaches us to relax and to let go. Drum circles teach us to lead when necessary, and follow when needed. We learn to focus intensely at times, and to just feel ourselves as part of others. Also, it teaches us to be sensitive and aware to the slightest hint of discord that can have a cascading effect off balance and harmony.

Benefits of Drumming

  • Helps enhancing attention and capacity to concentrate.

  • It produces deeper self-awareness as it gives the space for contemplation and expression.

  • It helps create a sense of connectedness with self and others thus places one in the present moment.

  • It helps control chronic pain.

  • It has calming and relaxing effects.

Art Heals

Art is not only a medium of expression but something that we all experience deep within. The various experiences, emotions, ideas, imaginations and thoughts are set free once we enter the realm of any art form. This is a space of possibilities where anything and everything is possible. No rules, no questions, no fears and no inhibitions to stop you. It can safely be said that true and complete freedom is experienced only within this realm.

Drama, painting, music and dance have proved to have significant healing effects on individuals suffering with advanced physical and psychological or emotional difficulties. Artists and non-artists are able to equally derive the healing benefits as it does not depend on the skill of practice but on the involvement, engagement and the intent one has with respect to the activity.

It is needless to say that when the involvement is complete and the intent is genuine then the outcome is nothing less than the best.
