Life Skills

What are Life Skills?

  • Life-Skills are a set of skills that help an individual deal with common life challenges in healthy and effective manner. They are seen as positive and adaptive behaviours that are solution oriented and do not cause minimal or no stress in the face of an adverse situation.

What is the ultimate aim of building Life skills?

  • Individuals who have experienced a Life-Skill Development Program generally feel a greater sense of competence, usefulness, power, and belonging.

How do Life-Skills work?

  • Life skills guide and prepare children / adolescents & adults for life and its possibilities and challenges.

  • Life Skills equip children / adolescents & adults for meaningful, successful, and fulfilling life in a rapidly changing and transforming society.

What do Life-Skills develop within?

During Life Skills training, participants (children & adults) are exposed to a range of knowledge, skills and values that strengthen their:

  • Physical, Social, Personal, Emotional and Cognitive Development;

  • Creative and Aesthetic skills and Knowledge through engaging in Dance, Music, Drama and Visual Art activities;

But what are these Life skills exactly?

Human behaviour is generally directed by a unique combination of the way they understand various situations or events and how capable are they to respond / deal with it. Ability to understand (perceive) the situation as it is (without prejudice) is a Life-Skill. Ability to respond to it in an adaptive manner is another Life-Skill. Various qualities that go along to make this appropriate understanding and appropriate response - are Life-Skills. To enumerate a few:

  • Emotional Awareness

  • Behavioural Responses

  • Coping with Stress

  • Communication Skills

  • Inter-personal Relationship

  • Problem Solving

  • Social Consciousness
